Chronic Disease Prevention Strategy

For a summary of our prevention achievements between 2015 and 2020, see our latest report,
Progress in Chronic Disease Prevention: 2015 to 2020.

The Chronic Disease Prevention Strategy is a multi-year plan designed to build on our existing programs, resources and expertise to provide a comprehensive approach to chronic disease prevention.

Through prevention initiatives, research, risk factor surveillance and cancer screening programs, the strategy promotes the development of policies and programs that support the health of Ontarians as a whole and disadvantaged groups in particular. It focuses on healthy environments, lifestyles and cancer screening, as well as improving the long-term outcomes of cancer survivors and those living with cancer or other chronic diseases.

Main Goals

  • Work with our partners to champion chronic disease prevention in Ontario.
  • Promote chronic disease prevention policies and programs.
  • Undertake primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
  • Inform chronic disease prevention through research and population health assessment and surveillance.

For an interim progress report, please see the Chronic Disease Prevention at CCO: 2015 to 2018 report.
