Equity in Engagement

Involving patients in health system planning leads to more person-centred care. That includes better health outcomes, better patient experience and lower overall healthcare costs. Yet system-level activities often do not include people who represent those being served.

The Equitable Engagement Framework aims to fill this gap. It will help organizations be more equitable in how they engage with their patients. The framework document has 3 main sections:

  • A framework to promote and prepare for equitable engagement
  • A process within the framework to create engagement
  • Considerations and opportunities for working with specific populations

This framework aligns with the Ontario Cancer Plan 2019 – 2023 strategic objective to expand patient experience measurement and equitable engagement with patients, caregivers and the public.
