About Us

Our Purpose: Connecting, coordinating and modernizing our health care system

We are an agency created by the Government of Ontario to connect, coordinate and modernize our province’s health care system. We work with partners, providers and patients to make the health system more efficient so everyone in Ontario has an opportunity for better health and wellbeing. 

We regularly connect and engage with health care professionals, system partners, patients and care partners and continue to build positive and collaborative relationships across all sectors.

Our work is guided by five objectives critical in the delivery of world-class health care services. We aim to:

We know that to create an effective person-centred health care system, we need to listen to and learn from the people we serve and those we partner with. This includes, but is not limited to, diverse communities such as Indigenous, Francophone and Black communities. 

Using tools like our Equity Framework ensures we embed equity in all our activities, ultimately reducing health inequity and improving outcomes.

Health System Reporting

Measuring and reporting on how the health system is performing 

Clinical Care Programs

Overseeing the delivery and quality of clinical care services, including cancer, renal, cardiac, palliative, mental health and addictions services

Regional Coordination

Managing funding and connecting with health system provider, including Ontario Health Teams, at the local level.

Digital Tools and Innovations

Creating provincial digital and virtual services that will give patients and health care providers more complete health information 

Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation

Delivering organ and tissue donation and transplantation services

Quality Improvement Initiatives

Setting quality standards and developing evidence-based guidelines to improve clinical care

Health Human Resources

Supporting the recruitment and retention of health care professionals across the province.

Emergency Planning and Management

Overseeing and coordinating system response to fluctuations in demand for services as well as emergencies such as power outages, fires and weather events that impact the health system.
