Quality Management Partnership

The Quality Management Partnership existed from 2013 to 2019. The foundation for quality built by the Quality Management Partnership will continue and grow within Ontario Health. This will help ensure the people of Ontario receive high-quality healthcare services where and when they need them.

The Quality Management Partnership brought Cancer Care Ontario and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) together to work alongside health system partners to develop and implement quality management programs in 3 health services areas:

  • Colonoscopy
  • Mammography
  • Pathology

Mandate

  • Enhance the quality of care
  • Increase consistency in the quality of care provided across facilities
  • Improve public confidence by increasing accountability and transparency

Quality Management Program Components

Each quality management program had 4 components:

  • Evidence-based provincial standards and guidelines for each of the health service areas, which applied to all providers of the service and all settings where the service is performed
  • Quality reporting at the provincial, regional, facility and physician levels
  • A 3-tier clinical leadership structure that included the:
    • provincial lead
    • regional leads
    • facility leads
  • Resources, tools and opportunities to support quality improvement
